Who manages commercial data governance for pharma companies in South Africa?

We build and run commercial data governance for pharmaceutical companies in South Africa. Every customer, sales and territory record has an owner, and every change is proposed, approved and recorded. For a pharmaceutical distribution group, we reviewed data governance in a diagnostic and took on interim data processing under a signed memorandum. We are POPIA-bound and pursuing ISO/IEC 27001.

Frequently asked questions

What does commercial data governance mean in practice?

It means defined ownership, change control and an audit trail over customer, sales and territory data. Records move from draft to approved to active to superseded, so a reclassification or a boundary change is proposed, approved and recorded, never made quietly.

Why does commercial data need governing at all?

Because every downstream decision inherits its errors. A duplicate customer record splits one account's sales across two lines and understates a territory, and an account nobody owns goes unvisited. Targets, routes and incentives are no more trustworthy than the customer and sales data they are calculated from.

Is the approach POPIA-aligned?

Yes. Need-to-know access is the default, and access controls and consent handling are built in from the start. We are POPIA-bound and pursuing certification to ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 42001.

Is our data kept separate from other clients' data?

Yes. We keep data isolated between clients and between sources, and your data stays in your engagement. Where another provider's data is combined with yours, it is integrated within that provider's contractual boundaries.

Can data operations continue while the foundation is reviewed?

Yes. For a pharmaceutical distribution group, we took on interim data processing under a signed memorandum alongside the diagnostic, so operational data handling continued while the findings were assessed. The group is anonymous.
